Welcome to Bishops Quay

Bishops Quay, on the Helford River, in Cornwall, is a flexible holiday house that can comfortably sleep six adults and two children, or, just as happily, a couple, as are many of our guests. Bishops Quay is definitely dog friendly, they can have a great time walking in the river meadows, along the private lane.

With waterfront balconies, a pretty, private, creek side garden, wonderful panoramic river views from every room, this historic, quirky quayside cottage/house is unique, individual and idyllic. A motor bass boat, a rowing boat and a sailing dinghy are provided for your use, also kayaks and canoes, buoyancy aids too. Watching the river birds is always fascinating, as is the coming and going of the tide.

Next available week is October 28th and then many autumn weeks. New Year from the 30th December…plus many more. See the chart on this site.

Right on the riverfront, with up to three loos, two bathrooms and a cloakroom, a dining table that seat a houseful, a smart tv, superfast fibre broadband and many other little things that make a house a home, this has been a much loved, enjoyed and returned to retreat for a quarter of a century. Prices will reflect numbers in your party; so do contact us with your plans. We are open to discussion over rental rates when the dates are very near.

Bishops Quay, has been most favourably featured in Coast, Country Living and Cornwall Life magazines. This lovely old property, inspected by Sawday’s, has also been visited and had some photos taken by by Holiday Lettings.

With a characterful atmosphere, Bishops Quay is spacious, private, and quiet. Logs, dry, from our land, are provided for the open fire, as many as you need, all year around. Balconies and a pretty waterside garden are for warm days and the long, sunny, late evenings. All set 1/4 mile away from the road, down a private track, with only river traffic and wildlife to catch your eye.

Our Visitors Book is full to bursting with happy memories of and thanks for numerous successful holidays taken over the years. Many guests return over and over; we are proud that Bishops Quay is clearly much loved. The house can be booked by contact with us through this site, or to use credit cards, do come through TripAdvisor – property number 70573 – showing many, all five star, reviews. PayPal is fine, too.

A complete Helford River based retreat, entirely restful, relaxing, and reviving, altogether an exceptional escape from the everyday.   You can unwind from the moment you arrive.

Thank you once more for a wonderful stay, and for all the little extras which are much appreciated… Super weather for sundowners on the balcony – again. We’ve loved every minute.

J & V April 2014

Our third visit to this lovely comfortable place with delightful Easter gifts in addition to the outstanding welcome cakes, flowers and more! We were lucky to have our daughter and family with us on an exceptionally sunny April week. Week 2 reverted to norm. Trebah’s rhododendrons were a blaze of colour. Several local pub restaurants are on top form (Black Swan Gweek/Trengilly Wartha/Halzephron) Thank you Kate and Ben for all your kindnesses

T, H, T and J August 2014

Just perfect, utter tranquillity, comfort and beauty – BQ does it all! Thank you Kate and Ben for a lovely week here. Highlights too numerous to mention, but we’d definitely recommend Trebah garden and beach to your future guests… And of course finding secluded beaches in Emmasam! Returning to rural Hampshire will feel like joining the rat race again after our amazing holiday! We can’t wait to come back.

G. August 2014

As always, we had a lovely time and made great use of the perfect weather we enjoyed! The main highlight was being on Prussia Cove in the tremendous sun, practicing gymnastics on the sand and swimming in the sea. Thank you so much for a great holiday and I hope to come here soon.

Brilliant week all round, fantastic fresh fish and an endless supply of eggs combined with idyllic views from the balcony served to give us a little taste of heaven. Thank you

We have beencoming to BQ for twelve years, it is a couple of years since ouor last visit but it is as wonderful as ever. We came this time to celebrate A’s 18th birthday and Kate and Ben really helped to make it the special day it was – Thank you both so much. Every time we come we find somewhere new we haven’t been to and this year it was Porthleven – the weather was even good enough for sunbathing and body boarding. We never want to leave when we come here but we always know that we will be back again.

Thank you for everything you have done for my birthday. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my 18th. Thank you again

2 more weeks of perfect peace and beauty – both within and outside your lovely house. Home from Home for us, thanks to the wonderful generosity and kindness of Kate and Ben. Until next time!

J and party from the Netherlands June 2014

We had a lovely time here at BQ the weather was good so we went out canoeing and made a trip with the little motor boat. The view is spectacular and ever changing.

Our fourth visit here! It was brilliant as usual. My grandma loves being able to sit in the sun on her balcony and watch us (the kids) muck about on the boats. In the two weeks we were here, we camped twice on Tremayne Quay. It was really fun even if it was a little spooky. However a campfire and lots of cheer made up for it.

Returning 11 years after we were last here – very little has changed. Even Kate’s Fish Pie was as we remembered it. This time coming with friends made a different holiday. Canoes at high tide and generally having a good old fashioned holiday has made this our best holiday for some time. No planes to catch, no delays, no getting up early. We know Cornwall well but this place is just superb. Relaxed, chilled and recharged we now face short hop back to Devon – we’ll be back!

M R &B March 2014

Lovely weather. Walk to The Black Swan in Gweek for lunch. Day out in EmmaSam to Helford – lunch at The Shipwright’s Arms and a walk to Ketle Barton. Recipe book for candle lit dinner, log fire and scrabble. Even watched movies in the late afternoon. Beautiful spring flowers and the water birds sound intriguing across the water in the early morning.

W,G, H, S & A May 2014

Another great week at BQ, returning after five years of living abroad. Everything is fabulous as it was before. (And now the children are old enough to read and write..) “I loved it here and my favourite part was helming EmmaSam.” I didn’t like it, I looved it! We went on a fishing trip we caught twenty fish 18 herrings and two mackerels”

J. S. & T. and E. September 2014

Thank you to Kate, Ben + family for making BQ a unique haven and a little slice of heaven! The myriad of sensory experiences woven around BQ, your wonderful family history + the changing tides, has made our week here so wonderfully relaxing – we don’t want to leave! We are looking forward to experiencing it all again soon.

J, L, D, T, J & K August 2014

We have had a wonderful week. So lovely to feel so welcome. Thanks so much for all the lovely treats, they were delicious. We were very lucky with the weather, and had some lovely trips on EmmaSam and the kayaks. Great bird spotting too!! Would love to visit you again.

N S I & D. April 2014

A beautiful and comfortable home. We have felt so welcome with the flowers and Easter eggs, and I loved reading about Morval and the family history. We feel lucky to have been allowed to stay here. We have had a sunny relaxing week and have enjoyed the beaches, Gweek Seal Sanctuary, Flambards and the Halzephron pub and playing “Happy Families” one of the card games we found in the house! Thank you.

T & M December 2014

Just a quick note to say thank you so much for the wonderful hospitality that you showed us at Christmas, it was a magic time for us, with all the family and friends together, and especially having the girls to stay with us for a few days. They really do like Bishops Quay, as we do, it has a warm and welcoming, homely and friendly feel about it. If it could say, "you are very welcome", then it would. We wish you a very Happy New Year and we will see you next year. Can’t say Thank You enough!! A wonderful family Christmas in your beautiful cottage, which we love so much. December.

Thank you so much Kate and Ben – we have had the most superb family holiday ever. Morning trips on the boat, kayaking during the day – amazing!! Fond memories of being here with my wonderful Mum – lovely to show my 7 year old where she has been – Thank you. Amazing fish pies as ever S.
